Advancing surgical care globally

Global surgery is an emerging discipline that aims to build capacity in surgical care in the areas of the world where it is most needed. Global surgical care delivery projects, international partnerships focused on surgical care education and research, and global disasters either man made or natural requiring a surgical care response all highlight the opportunities and necessity for appropriately trained health professionals. The graduate-level programs at Branch for Global Surgical Care (BGSC) were designed to meet the learning needs of surgical care clinicians, residents in training and health professionals from many disciplines who wish to incorporate international surgical care into their careers.

Our Programs

Delivered fully online and accessible internationally, our programs are available to students all around the world.

Interdisciplinary in nature. Join a diverse classroom of surgeons and allied health professionals from different disciplines and regional settings.

Flexible with both full-time and part-time options. Our programs can be integrated at a comfortable pace by working professionals.

BGSC and Planetary Health

To contribute towards the strategy of including global health and planetary health in the achievement of the Department of Surgery Strategic Plan 2022-2025, and the BGSC Strategic Plan 2022-2027, and acknowledgement that health care is responsible for 5% of global CO2 emissions, on par with the aviation industry, BGSC is committed towards helping reduce the environmental footprint of surgical care worldwide.
