We are proud to share an exciting career update from Karina Olivo, alumna of the Master of Global Surgical Care (MGSC) program at UBC.
Karina recently transitioned from her role as Manager of Peri-operative Services at the Montreal Children’s Hospital to become the Senior Manager for Global Programs at Operation Smile, a leading international nonprofit that provides cleft surgery and comprehensive care for children and young adults with facial differences, including cleft lip and palate.
In her new role, Karina oversees Nursing Education within Operation Smile’s Global Programs branch, helping to strengthen surgical systems through education and multidisciplinary collaboration.
Reflecting on her educational and career journey and how the MGSC has impacted it, Karina shared:
“I wanted to reach out to let you know about my new job, specifically because I believe my Master of Global Surgical Care was instrumental in me getting this new opportunity. I would be happy to share my experience with any prospective students as an example of the opportunities that the program brings from a career development perspective. I feel that in order to strengthen surgical systems we require a multidisciplinary approach, much like that which the MGSC program offers.”
Congratulations, Karina, on this incredible achievement and your ongoing commitment to advancing global surgical care through education and leadership!
