Serena Kassam

Dr. Serena Kassam is a pediatric dentist sub-specialized in cleft and craniofacial care. She is working with BC Children’s Hospital / UBC and private practice. Serena has been a volunteer and board member with Global Smile Foundation, a registered non- profit dedicated to improving the lives of patients with cleft lip and palate in developing countries, for 15 years. GSF focuses on providing comprehensive cleft care, long term follow up, training of local healthcare providers and building sustainability.

She plans to apply what she has learned in the MGSC to help further the work being done and to help apply it at a larger policy level. Serena also started working with BC Children’s Brighter Smiles Outreach and will be joining them in September 2024 during outreach with the Nisga’a Nation. Brighter Smiles is an innovative service-learning initiative which allows for Pediatric Residents, Pediatric Dental Residents, and Surgical Residents under the supervision of faculty, to partner with remote First Nations communities in support of advancing child health.

She hopes to apply her learnings from the MGSC here in BC, Canada and with our First Nations communities to help with access to oral care in the pediatric population.
