Emma Robertson, a student of the MGSC program, recently published their SURG 560 final report to UBC CIRcle. This report summarizes the final practicum project “Bridging the gap in chronic pain care : A retrospective cohort study to gain insights from implementation of an advanced implantable analgesic intervention for Ontarians living in rural and remote settings” conducted during the 2024/25 academic year.

This study aimed to evaluate the demographic and pain characteristics of patients referred for Spinal Cord Simulation (SCS) and clinical outcomes of patients with implanted SCS devices among individuals from rural and remote areas in Ontario and compared this data with that from patients residing in urban areas.
